Drone & Aerial Filming Prices in Dubai and the UAE (2026 Guide)

Permits, airspace clearance, FPV vs cinema drone day rates, crew and post-production — a transparent breakdown of what aerial filming really costs in Dubai and across the UAE.

Drone & Aerial Filming Prices in Dubai and the UAE (2026 Guide)

Every week someone asks us the same question: “How much does a drone shoot cost in Dubai?” The honest answer is that the drone is rarely the expensive part. Permits, airspace, crew, and insurance are what move a quote up.

This guide breaks down the real ballpark numbers for aerial and FPV filming across the UAE in 2026 — what the government charges, what production companies charge, and where budgets usually get blown. All figures are indicative ranges in AED, excluding 5% VAT unless stated.

    1. The approvals you actually need

Commercial drone filming in Dubai is not a single permit. In practice you are stacking three or more separate approvals, and each one has its own timeline and fee:

    • Filming permit DFTC (Dubai Film and TV Commission) — the base authorization to film in the emirate. Processing fee around AED 520 per application, which can cover multiple days and locations. in Abu Dhabi and other emirates NMA/UAE Media Council would be equivalent.
    • Location fee —  Also part of the DFTC Permit, from AED 0 for many aerial and news shoots, around AED 2,500 for common public locations, and up to AED 25,000 per day for premium private or government locations.
    • Airspace / UAS approval (DCAA in Dubai, GCAA federally) — the aerial-specific clearance covering the aircraft, the pilot and the flight area. Budget AED 1,500–5,000 per shoot day depending on zone, altitude and controlled airspace.

    • Ministry Of Defense (MOD) — MOD permit is required for any aerial filming activity in UAE, an officer from MOD must be present or with coordination to make sure we fly in a controlled airspace with proper documents, and to make sure all other authorities are aware of our operations. They're also responsible of making sure we don't shoot anything that shouldn't be anywhere online. the official MOD Permit cost is 2,520 AED per shift, the standard shift is 6 hours only, and can be multiple shifts per day or per operation.

    • Aerial Coordinator Fee —  Usually decided by the aerial filming company offering the permitting services, this covers the processing fee and the coordination with the relative authorities on the shoot day. can range from 2,000-5,000 AED

On top of that, restricted zones (near airports, palaces, ports, military sites, Downtown and Palm airspace, and any other private areas) often require a No Objection Certificate from the landowner or authority, plus a security escort if needed.

    2. Permit and clearance costs at a glance

    ItemTypical cost (AED)Lead time
DFTC filming permit application520 / project3–5 working days
Standard public location fee0 – 2,520 / day or projectWith DFTC permit
    Premium / private location5,000 – 25,000 / day or project1–3 weeks
    Drone airspace approval GCAA/DCAA (uncontrolled zone)1,500 – 6,000 / project5–10 working days

    NOTAMs/ATC/DANS coordination

    1,000 – 2,000 / day1–2 weeks
    Indoor Permit in Dubai520 / day1 Day

    Ministry Of Defense (MOD)

    2,520 / 6 Hours shift5-10 days

    Aerial Coordinator Fee

    2,000 – 5,000 / project
    NA

Rule of thumb: for a straightforward one-day aerial shoot outside restricted airspace, the compliance stack lands somewhere between AED 6,000 and 8,000 before a single camera rolls. For areas that require extra permits and altitude limits with NOTAMs/ATC/DANS coordination, expect to pay extra.

    3. What the flying itself costs

These are our own day rates and the ballpark you should expect from any serious UAE crew. Rates include the aircraft, batteries, the licensed pilot and, where required, a camera operator.

    PlatformDay rate (AED)Best for
Standard camera drone (Mavic-class)6,000 - 10,000Real estate, progress shots, social content
Cinema drone (Inspire / heavy-lift)14,000 - 20,000Commercials, brand films, RAW deliverables
FPV drone (cinematic, one-take, Cinelifer)8,000 - 18,000Action, venues, automotive, hype films

Why FPV costs more: a single FPV move is a stunt. It needs a dedicated pilot, a spotter, custom-built airframes, prop guards for interiors, more insurance, and rehearsal time. Nobody nails a 60-second one-take through a hotel lobby on the first pass — you are paying for the experience and safety and the planning.

    4. Crew and production services

An aerial day rarely travels alone. The moment you need ground coverage, interviews or a creative lead on set, these line items appear:

    Role / serviceRate (AED)
    Ground camera operator3,000 - 4,500 / day
    Director / DP6,000 - 8,000 / day
Event coverage packagefrom 12,000 / event
    Production assistant / runner800 – 1,500 / day
    Location scouting & recce1,500 – 3,000

    5. Post-production

    DeliverableCost (AED)
Raw footage delivery (organized, backed up)1,000 / project
    Highlight edit (30–60s, graded, music-licensed)2,000 - 3,500 / video
    Full edit (2–4 min brand film)5,000 - 7,000 / video
    Extra social cutdowns (9:16, 1:1)600 – 1,200 each
    Licensed music track500 – 5,000

    6. Three realistic budget scenarios

    A. Real estate listing — AED 8,000 – 14,000

Half-day standard or FPV Drone, uncontrolled airspace, permit and clearance if needed, one FPV-Fly through or Drone edit. Fast turnaround, minimal paperwork.

    B. Hotel or venue brand film — AED 45,000 – 90,000

Two shoot days, FPV plus cinema drone, ground DP, restricted-zone clearance with escort, full 2–3 minute edit, colour grade, three social cutdowns.

    C. Automotive or tourism campaign — AED 150,000 – 400,000+

Multi-day, multi-emirate, closed roads or desert permits, tracking vehicle, FPV chase team, talent, licensing for regional broadcast, full post pipeline.

    7. Where budgets get blown

    • Late permit applications. Rush handling, re-scheduled crew and standby days cost more than the permit itself.
    • Assuming one permit covers everything. A DFTC permit is not airspace clearance, and airspace clearance is not a landowner NOC.
    • Restricted airspace discovered on the day. Always run the flight zone check during the recce, not at call time.
    • Weather and haze. June–September heat and summer haze kill contrast; a weather contingency day is cheaper than a re-mobilization.

    8. How to cut cost without cutting quality

    • Combine multiple deliverables into one shoot day — the permit and mobilization are already paid for.
    • Choose unrestricted locations when the brief allows; the same skyline is often available from a legal vantage point.
    • Use the standard camera drone for coverage and reserve FPV for two or three hero moves.
    • Combine drones with one pilot often reduces the costs as a package.
    • Book recurring progress captures as a retainer instead of one-off jobs, like a 6 month or 1 year contract.

    9. Frequently asked

Can any production company provide aerial filming services? No. Aerial filming operations requires a licensed operator and approvals for each specific flight, if the pilot says don't worry I will handle the permits, ask them about his company documents and process.

How far ahead should I book? Two weeks for a simple shoot, four to six weeks for restricted zones or multi-emirate work.

Is VAT included? All figures above exclude 5% UAE VAT.
